Hi, I’m Fiona. I am a qualified herbalist and I offer consultations every Tuesday at Matamata Herbal clinic on Arawa street. I work on the cause(s) of people’s illness using herbal medicines and lifestyle modifications. I am also furthering my studies at the Southern Institute of Medical Herbalism.
What inspired you to start your business?
First and foremost, I want to see people thrive and be in good health. By practising herbal medicine, I also wish to reconnect people with nature and themselves. Most of us live a very mentalised life, really out of touch with our bodies and emotions. Plants can mend, reconnect, and gently challenge when they are well-matched to the user and introduced at the right time. I love being that matchmaker!
How do you keep yourself motivated and passionate about your business?
Variety and learning opportunities are key elements for me. I can’t ever get bored meeting people with such diverse life experiences. And if I need to ground myself, I can turn to the other side of my business, which is making the herbal medicines I prescribe.
Any advice for an aspiring entrepreneur wanting to start their own business?
A business is a true labour of love. Like a relationship, it requires commitment, dedication, and trust. Jump in heartedly or don’t at all!
What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
Empty mind, open heart! Good things happen when you start truly listening without analysing or judging.
Beauty tip for our readers?
Beauty comes from the inside out. Proper nutrition adapted to your needs, restful sleep, exercise, and mental well-being are the most important factors to feel beautiful and shine.
