Introduce yourself and what it is you do.
I am a mother of two, based in Matakana, New Zealand. Before having children, I was a visual communications specialist working for top-tier corporate firms in Sydney. I am now the founder of Daisy, aimed at enhancing maternal health outcomes.
Can you tell us a little about your business?
Daisy was founded after my own journey through Hyperemesis Gravidarum (severe morning sickness). After countless hospital admissions, I realised the need to explore alternative options. This led to two years of extensive research and product development alongside leading PhD nutritionists at Massey University, resulting in Morning Relief — a blend of clinically-proven ingredients combined with electrolytes to address maternal depletion.
What inspired you to start your business?
It is such a privilege to start Daisy and be here to support women during an intimate time in their lives. My own struggles with Hyperemesis Gravidarum were the initial inspiration to start Daisy, and I am dedicated to raising awareness and funding to support research in this space. My dream is for women to live in a world where complications cannot rob us of the joy of carrying life.
How do you keep inspired and motivated?
I stand by John C. Maxwell's quote: “You're only as good as the people you have around you.” I am fortunate to be surrounded by an encouraging and supportive network of friends and family, which I think is so important, especially during the early stages of business. I also have the biggest cheerleaders and motivators in my children, and that privilege is never lost on me.
Any advice for someone wanting to start their own business?
Start small, test your product with your target market, adjust, and test again. I was once told that if you launch and everything is perfect, you have launched too late.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
I love the quotes by Maya Angelou: "Nothing will work unless you do," and “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” Sometimes I can stall when things feel challenging, and reflecting on these words reminds me to persevere.
Do you have a beauty tip you can share with our readers?
Hydrate and sleep, both of which I am also working to achieve!
Must-have products.
It's not a product, but I cannot live without fresh air, sea breeze, and my family.
