Kia Ora, I'm Bethany, living in a charming small town with my husband, two young children (ages 0 and 2), and our beloved dog. I'm a registered nurse, currently part-time in my dream role as a Tamariki Ora/ well-child nurse. Despite my busy schedule, I've recently embarked on an exciting journey by launching my own handmade jewellery business, Beth Marie Jewellery, where I'm also learning the art of silversmithing.
About My Business
Beth Marie Jewellery came to life in April 2024, after many years of dreaming and a deep desire for a significantly different career direction.
Initially, the fear of starting something new and just for myself held me back. But one day, I realized that if I didn't start, I never would.
Now, I offer a range of sterling silver jewellery, including rings and earrings, with pendants coming soon. As a self-taught silversmith, I'm continually learning and evolving.
The excitement of this journey and the endless creative possibilities keep me motivated and inspired.
Inspiration Behind My Business
The birth of my second child ignited a profound urge to carve out some creative time for myself. In many ways, I experienced an identity shift after having my daughter, and creating jewellery became a path to rediscovering and reshaping my self-identity.
Launching this business amidst maternity leave, wedding planning, and preparing to sell our family home and return to my part time nursing career felt scary and crazy but equally essential to my being.
Despite the multiple jewellery artists I was inspired by, including Deborah Fellowfield who I’ve relentlessly followed for at least 5 years and who created our wedding bands. My inspiration to start this has ALWAYS been purely out of love for myself and my future.
Staying Inspired and Motivated
The sheer joy of transforming a simple piece of metal into wearable art fuels my passion. This journey is about more than just business—it's about self-evolution and embracing a new identity through creation. The thrill of possibility and personal growth keeps me constantly inspired.
Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs
Just go for it. Embrace learning on the go, and focus on building friendships rather than viewing others as competition. Switch that mindset from "I hope I can do this" to "I'm going to make this shit happen" it's a game changer.
