Tea Time - Christie Lemon, Pink Valour

Introduce yourself and what it is you do.

Hi, I’m Christie. I’m a qualified hairdresser, currently renting a chair out of Room66 in Matamata. I’m also the owner of Pink Valour which is my new and exciting business venture!

Can you tell us a little about your business?

Pink Valour is an online store and blog which I’ve created for women. It’s a space to shop, feel inspired and to promote other women in business.

What inspired you to start your business?

I’ve always had a passion for business and seeing other women realise their full potential. After working in the hairdressing industry for so long and having spent time listening to other women’s stories, I felt inspired to create a space where I could bring it all together. I love to encourage others to chase their dreams and I’ve heard so many over the years - I hope Pink Valour can somewhat inspire them to make it a reality.

How do you keep inspired and motivated?

It’s relationship and listening to others that does this for me. I genuinely enjoy connecting and making someone feel heard. Hearing what others have been through (inspiring and heartbreaking) really does motivate me to want to be better and to create new and exciting things.

Any advice for someone wanting to start their own business?

I always think, go for it!!! I’m definitely the half glass full, dreamer. I feel like life is too short to not try what it is you really feel drawn to do. If you really want to start a new business and it seems overwhelming, get your vision down on paper and keep adding to it as new ideas come to you. Eventually you’ll see the vision come to life and you’ll be able to make those first steps to starting out. I personally feel like it’s good to keep most of your ideas to yourself in the early days, until you have a solid foundation of what it is you’re going to do. Otherwise you might just feel like others will try to mould it into something different to what you dreamed. Then make it happen!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

I recently went to a ladies night at Soul in Matamata. The theme of the evening was “Day one.” I feel like the message really stuck with me; making small changes now to reach your goals. Switching from that “one day” mindset to adding in new day one tasks to realise the dream. “Not one day but day one.”

Do you have a beauty tip you can share with our readers?

The foundation to your beauty regime is taking care of yourself from the inside out, and that includes mentally and emotionally as well. Our diet, hormones, stress all play such a big role when it comes to our hair and skin. Make sure you keep this in check first.
